چکیده

We study the relaxation of a spin density injected into a two-dimensional electron system with generic spin-orbit interactions. Our model includes the Rashba as well as linear and cubic Dresselhaus terms. We explicitly derive a general spin-charge coupled diffusion equation. Spin diffusion is characterized by just two independent dimensionless parameters, R and D, which control the interplay between different spin-orbit couplings. The real-time representation of the diffuson matrix Green’s function of the diffusion equation is evaluated analytically. The diffuson describes space-time dynamics of the injected spin distribution. We explicitly study two regimes: The first regime corresponds to negligible spin-charge coupling and is characterized by standard charge diffusion decoupled from the spin dynamics. It is shown that there exist several qualitatively different dynamic behaviors of the spin density, which correspond to various domains in the R , D parameter space. We discuss in detail a few interesting phenomena such as an enhancement of the spinrelaxation times, real-space oscillatory dynamics, and anisotropic transport. In the second regime, we include the effects of spin-charge coupling. It is shown that the spin-charge coupling leads to an enhancement of the effective charge diffusion coefficient. We also find that in the case of strong spin-charge coupling, the relaxation rates formally become complex and the spin-charge dynamics is characterized by real-time oscillations. These effects are qualitatively similar to those observed in spin-grating experiments C. P. Weber et al., Nature London 437, 133

Quantum Interference Control of Ballistic Magneto- resistance in a Magnetic Nanowire Containing Two Atomic- Size Domain Walls

The magnetoresistance of a one-dimensional electron gas in a metallic ferromagnetic nanowire containing two atomic-size domain walls has been investigated in the presence of spin-orbit interaction. The magnetoresistance is calculated in the ballistic regime, within the Landauer-Büttiker formalism. It has been demonstrated that the conductance of a magnetic nanowire with double domain walls...

We theoretically demonstrate the interplay of uniform spin-orbit coupling and uniform Zeeman magnetic field on the topological properties of one-dimensional double well nano wire which is known as Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model. The system in the absence of Zeeman magnetic field and presence of uniform spin-orbit coupling exhibits topologically trivial/non–trivial insulator depending on the h...

Spin Transport in Nanowires

We study high-field spin transport of electrons in a quasi one-dimensional channel of a GaAs gate controlled spin interferometer (SPINFET) using a semiclassical formalism (spin density matrix evolution coupled with Boltzmann transport equation). Spin dephasing (or depolarization) is predominantly caused by D’yakonov-Perel’ relaxation associated with momentum dependent spin orbit coupling effect...

We have investigated the magnetic properties of three-dimensional topological insulators, doped with magnetic atoms. The spin-orbit locking of surface electrons results in interesting magnetic behaviors, absent in conventional insulators without spin-orbit coupling. In particular, the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic transition temperature has a strong dependence on different system parameters. Here,...

Theory of single electron spin relaxation in Si/SiGe lateral coupled quantum dots

We investigate the spin relaxation induced by acoustic phonons in the presence of spin-orbit interactions in single electron Si/SiGe lateral coupled quantum dots. The relaxation rates are computed numerically in single and double quantum dots, in in-plane and perpendicular magnetic fields. The deformation potential of acoustic phonons is taken into account for both transverse and longitudinal p...
